💻 ABOUT MATCHA DESIGN LABS

We're an endlessly curious team of UX / Product Designers who work with everyone from cryptocurrency web apps to healthcare mobile apps and online marketplace websites. We focus on consumer-facing tech products and specialize in 3 main areas: cultivating deep user empathy, poking holes in existing user experiences, and crafting products from the ground up. We take fuzzy ideas and bring them to life. Literally.

We also value freedom and radical responsibility like no other. We’re 100% remote (we love to travel and #WorkFromAnywhere). We also meet up during the year IRL to work/play together and have some fun.

🎥 ABOUT THE ROLE

🧬 WHO YOU ARE

You are an A-Player. You’re curious about the world and love getting things done. You value a growth-mindset, and have worked hard to cultivate that in yourself. You cringe when you see buttons misaligned on screens or Comic Sans font. You can’t stop talking about how much Figma changed your life. Your heart and mind are constantly looking out for your products’ users. If you’re presented with something new / unfamiliar, you dive into problem-solving mode fearlessly. Your first instinct is to “figure it out” and you’re always ready to be scrappy. You are thoughtful, empathetic, and full of heart.

💼 WHAT YOU'LL OWN

You’ll be owning specific client projects and be responsible for the strategy/execution of the product output. You’ll wear lots of hats + learn about several different businesses, platforms, and industries all at once. You’ll be the strategy and design lead on projects which means you’ll be coming up with the vision and overseeing the end-to-end creation. Sometimes this will mean hopping into designs yourself. Other times, it means you'll be delegating to other design team members. Creating app designs, developing UI styles, presenting your work, sharing design feedback, and designing landing pages are a few of the things you might work on in a typical week.

As a senior member of the MDL team, you’ll also be responsible for reviewing teammates’ projects and providing feedback as they progress. You’ll often be providing feedback via ClickUp through Loom videos or Figma comments. Design reviews are how we consistently create high-quality work for our clients, so this is a crucial part of our process. Aside from this, you’ll likely take on a mentorship role with other teammates and help them continue to flourish as designers.

Someone who excels in this role will become a key stakeholder in Matcha Design Labs with the ability to inform strategy, select their projects, and lead client communications.

🙋🏽‍♀️ ABOUT YOU

We need someone who is excited to add value to amazing clients, learn a lot, work hard, and have fun. This person is willing to try on different roles, do what it takes, and switch gears quickly. We care about attention to detail (down to the pixel). But most of all, we care about communication + transparency.

Team Player Proficiencies
  • Growth. You value growth. You always find ways to improve yourself and be the best version of yourself. MDL has fostered growth for all of it’s team members -- it’s basically a catalyst for You 2.0 (personally and professionally).
  • Reliable. You do what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it.
  • Collaborative. You share feedback early and often.
  • Creative & can contribute meaningful ideas.
  • Knows when to turn on the left brain to analyze + make decisions.
  • You’re not afraid to try something you’ve never done before or something that doesn’t fit perfectly in your wheelhouse (like write a line or two of copy or review key data metrics).
  • Leadership. You provide constructive feedback with love and grace and are constantly thinking of ways to help raise your teammates up.
  • Inquisitive. You ask lots of questions before proposing solutions.
Client Facing Proficiencies
  • Relationships. You build and develop meaningful relationships with our team and clients.
  • Killer organizational skills. (We are obsessed with ClickUp.)
  • Can part with your ego + take feedback. You are quick to admit to your mistakes and are willing to do what it takes to make it right.
  • Meetings. Leading client meetings is your jam. You're an expert at commanding the "room" and moving client meetings along. You know what to ask to get the right feedback and can gracefully steer the conversation. Your meetings are fun and efficient.
  • Clear & communicative. We value having an open channel of discussion at all times. Since we are working on many projects at once, communication is the lifeblood of our team.
  • Boundaries. You hold your ground and can say no respectfully & with love when clients try to scope creep.
  • Cool, calm, and collected. You stay level-headed under pressure and deadlines. You’re not afraid to juggle many things at once.

💾 TECH PROFICIENCIES

  • Expert Proficiency in Figma.
  • Expert Proficiency in Prototyping with InVision, Figma, Principle, or something similar.
  • Familiar with: Google Drive, Loom, Toggl, Project Management Systems (like Asana, ClickUp, Trello, Notion).

🏝PERKS

  • Monthly Virtual Team Happy Hours which often include fun virtual games, tarot card pulls, talking about life, exchanging book recs, and laughing a lot.
  • Annual Team Retreats. Post-pandemic, we’ll be reinstating our yearly team getaways to places like Tulum, Austin, Joshua Tree, and more!
  • Development Workshops + Training provided quarterly on areas of the team’s interest like: leading meetings, creative brainstorming, diversity & inclusivity, and more.
  • Fully-Remote Team Culture. We are a borderless and global team. We love our freedom and the ability to work from anywhere!
